Service learning is where you learn something and than use it to help people.  We do service learning to learn new skills and help other people that need it.  Service learning helps us because it makes us feel better about ourselves and makes other people feel better to.
The character ED communication group is good, it is on Fridays after lunch.  In the group we learn about communication and negotiation and learning about how it is important in service learning.  Because if you don't communicate you might do something wrong and not mean to.
My favorite projects have been the Topeka water because we got to CiCi's pizza for lunch and then go out to eat at Peking taste.  Then there was the jdla water festival up at the lake. It was my one of my favorites because we were talking about traits of water.

robbys halloween weekend

This Halloween weekend I got to help out handing out candy to the little kids and also I helped my best Friends mom take her kids trick or treating because she needed help. I had some fun of my own tho cause the kids shared the candy with me and I got to see all the cool, and not so cool costumes and houses. Unfortunately on the way home the car started leaking transmission fluid and we had to stop at the gas station to buy a bottle of transmission fluid. once we put the fluid in we headed home but unfortunately the transmission was shot by the time we got home. now my Friends parents are gonna have to get that fixed huh.

Service learning is learning while helping the community at the same time. We do service learning to teach us about different things and to teach others about different things while doing community service at the same time. Service learning helps us to better ourselves by helping others through teaching and working. character ed helps us to communicate better during service learning presentations. my favorite service learning project is the water festival. The water festival is the biggest service learning project that john dewey does and its alway fun to do!

ABOUT SERVICE LEARNING

Service learning is learning by doing a service to our community or someone around it. When we help others it helps us to learn new skills and develop connections to our community. It is a way to learn what is going on around us and at the same time perform a service to those around us.
The reasons that we do service learning is to develop new skills and new ways of helping those in our community. When we do this our school gets a grant which helps us seeing how we don’t have much money. Having more money for our school helps to be able to perform more tasks in the community which helps us to perform service learning. Learning by doing something gives you something hands on to reinforce what you are learning.
It helps us because we are learning new skills that could help sometime in the future. It also helps us because we get grant money so our school will be able to better our education budget and help us perform more in the community. when we are helping others we are helping our selves grow and develop. We are developing new skills which are taught to us by a reinforced service that we are doing for the people in our community.
We are learning character stuff in our afternoon Friday groups and it is about communication and negotiation. It affects us because alot of the time you have to be able to communicate to others what you are going to do and why. The negotiation part also affects us because sometimes you have to be able to negotiate and talk out what you will do and why.

My favorite part of this class is helping others. My favorite project of this class would be the Topeka Water Festival when we got to teach a bunch of fourth graders about plastic and paper bags. I liked it because we got to teach them and hopefully encourage them to make a difference.
